Positive elements of product: -The music is effective to represent the main character and the idea that she is a geek -The setting is shown at the start to introduce us to the film and what to expect, as it is a high school -Able to relate to the character through the use of a voiceover
Areas for improvement: -The voiceover is fairly quiet and unclear -The dialogue is unclear and could be louder and easier to understand so we are able to relate to the characters -The music goes on for a fairly long amount of time -The editing could be sharper- for example, the transition between the female character falling over and the male character picking her up -More rehearsal time could have been used in order to ensure the opening ran smoothly, also so that the characters interaction with one another was practised and didn’t look rushed
• The music was effective as it expressed the initial mood of the opening and the overall genre effectively. • Good use of long shot for the school as it set the scene well. • The audience are able to connect with the character as we follow her around and so it is also obvious that she is the main character. • Good body language and gestures as this shows the personalities of the characters well (Attractive boy texting shows that he is popular, Geek giggling and looking down shows that she is insecure and uncomfortable). • Effective use of props to characterize people (mobile phone for the attractive boy and books for the geek). • Good choice of music as it reflects the Geek and her friend’s love for Star wars (‘feel the force’). • Good shots used when the popular boy is walking away at the end.
Points to improve on:
• The voiceover was not loud enough to be heard clearly. • Part of the Paramount Pictures introduction was cut out. • The titles were a bit dull in terms of colour and font. • The cut to the popular boy could have been made to flow better. • The loudness of the music differs and different areas of the opening and so seems a bit jumpy. • A strange effect is used when the Geek’s friend approaches. This doesn’t necessarily go with the genre. • The pause before the popular boy helps the Geek up seems too long and so it breaks the continuity and verisimilitude a bit. • The shot is a bit shaky when the popular boy helps the geek up. • The song overpowers the dialogue in some areas.
Positive: -The music that is used in the opening is effective, it let's the audience know about the characters and shows some insight into the stereotypes. -The voiceover helps to introduce the story, and fits in with the iconography for this genre. -The main character is a geek, and her costume is appropriate to show this. -The setting is good for the genre, as a high school is where a teen rom-com would be expected. Playing to this idea means they can provide anchorage.
Negative: -The music played throughout the whole clip, which means that it was more difficult to hear the speech. -The voiceover was quiet as well, and this meant that the audience have to strain to hear what is being said.
We really like the camera movement when it is from her point of view, and she is falling on the floor. However, the next couple of shots, when she is on the floor, and he helps up, seems to be a bit slow and needs a faster edit because it will have more continuity. Except for this, we really like the opening and how you have ended it with the shot of the boy walking of, and the girl’s reaction.

PROS =
ReplyDelete- When the camera changed to the main characters perspective (when hit
by the ball) the effect created was good.
-The relationship between the two characters is shown effectively
through close-ups of their hands.
- We also felt that this group captured the essence of a teen Rom-Com
by including the comedy element.
CONS =
- We felt that the voiceover was quiet and muffled and therefore on
certain occassions the storyline was hard to follow.
